About the Petition:
On behalf of our million-strong grassroots team, Grassfire.org is announcing its economic policy agenda for the 109th Congress with the launch of a bold and innovative petition. The “Taxpayer Freedom and Fairness Petition” focuses the energies and efforts of our team members on four key economic issues impacting grassroots conservatives:

Making the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts permanent
Insisting on “No New Taxes”
Eliminating the Death Tax
True Social Security Reform

Charting the Future:
In addition, the “Taxpayer Freedom and Fairness” petition surveys our team members on long-range Taxpayer Freedom initiatives under consideration by Grassfire.org. Grassfire believes that significant reform is needed to bring true freedom and fairness to American taxpayers. These initiatives are not expected to come for a vote in the 109th Congress. Still, Grassfire.org wants to begin this year building momentum for the coming years.

As a taxpaying citizen of the United States, I am asking you to support efforts and legislation that positively addresses these critical economic issues:

109th Congress Initiatives: (please check each that you support)

TAX CUTS MADE PERMANENT The tax cuts of 2001 and 2003 played a key role
      in lifting our economy, and are vital to keeping our economy healthy. With these
      important cuts due to expire—automatically triggering the largest tax increase in
      our nation’s history—we call on our leaders to make these cuts permanent.
NO NEW TAXES American citizens are being taxed at record rates—forcing many
      to have to work two and even three jobs just to make ends meet. We oppose any
      efforts to increase the already heavy tax burden and urge you not to introduce new
      tax hikes.
ELIMINATION OF THE DEATH TAX The “Death Tax” is a punitive tax that must be
      eliminated. Hard working, tax-paying Americans should not have their life savings
      confiscated by Federal death taxes upon their death. We support the Elimination
      of the Death Tax, and believe doing so would ensure economic fairness for all
      Americans.
STOP RAIDING SOCIAL SECURITY The first step in Social Security reform must
      be to restore integrity to the current system. Congress must: A) Immediately stop
      the federal theft of the Social Security Trust Fund and set aside the current Social
      Security surplus ($164 billion in 2004) to provide a stockpile of funds for future
      claims, and B) Stop taxing Social Security benefits when they are disbursed.
SOCIAL SECURITY REFORM I support reforming the Social Security system to
      establish personal investment accounts that give citizens the option of having more
      control over their funds deposited in Social Security.

Possible Future Initiatives By Grassfire: (please check each that you support)

FAIR TAX I support replacing the entire current federal tax structure (including
      personal, estate, gift, capital gains, alternative minimum, Social Security,
      Medicare, self-employment, and corporate taxes) with a national sales tax often
      called the “Fair Tax”. This plan would eliminate the Internal Revenue Service.
FLAT TAX I support reform of the federal tax code to establish a true
      across-the-board “Flat Tax” that would release American citizens from the
      burdensome and wasteful income tax compliance costs that sap hundreds of
      billions of dollars from our economy.
REPEAL OF 16th AMENDMENT I support repealing the 16th Amendment to make
      the federal income tax unconstitutional and eliminate the Internal Revenue Service.
