Grassfire Rallies Over 135,000 Citizens to Stand Against
Online Pornography
Petitions Delivered To U.S.
Justice Department Urging
Department to Appeal Internet Porn Decision To Supreme Court!
WASHINGTON, DC — Today, the Grassfire team delivered more
than 135,000 petitions from citizens throughout the land urging the Justice
Department to appeal the Court of Appeals decision to overrule the Child
Internet Protection Act (CIPA)!
”These petitions represent the voice of 135,000 Americans
who want to see real legislation to keep Internet porn out of our government
buildings, schools, libraries and other public facilities,” says Steve Elliott,
President of Grassfire.
The law, which required libraries to use filters to block
pornography or risk losing federal monies, was overwhelmingly supported by 535
members of Congress and President Bush. In the end, the three Federal judges who
overturned the law seemed more interested in protecting those viewing on-line
pornography rather than the innocent children who use our libraries.
The petitions were gathered over the past few weeks as part
of Grassfire’s National Campaign To Stop Internet Porn. The National Campaign
includes a specific call to “require all public places, schools, libraries to
install pornography-filtering software.
“This petition delivery is a cry from the American people
for our government to take action against pornographers who are using the
Internet to put our families and our children at risk,” says Elliott. “We cannot
allow three judges to derail the will of the American people and our leaders who
are working to stop Internet porn.”
Grassfire is one of the nation’s leading online grassroots
citizen activist organizations, offering real impact, real feedback and real
results to hundreds of thousands of people across the nation and around the
world.
