Grassfire Rallies Over 135,000 Citizens to Stand Against
Online Pornography
Petitions Delivered To Rep. Lamar Smith in Support of
The Child Obscenity and Pornography Prevention Act of 2002
WASHINGTON, DC — Today, the Grassfire team delivered more than 135,000 petitions
on behalf of citizens throughout the United States who stand in support of Rep.
Lamar Smith (R-TX) and H.R. 4623, The Child Obscenity and Pornography Prevention
Act of 2002.
This important bill, which would make it illegal to use, sell, or purchase
computer-generated images of a child engaging in specified sexually explicit
conduct, would go a long way in protecting families and children from being
preyed upon by pornographers.
This petition delivery is a show of support from the American people to Rep.
Smith and other law-makers to continue taking decisive and strong action against
online pornographers whose unscrupulous actions are putting our families and
children at risk.
“We want to see real legislation to keep Internet porn out of our homes,
government buildings, schools, libraries and other public facilities,” says
Steve Elliott, President of Grassfire. “The Child Obscenity and Pornography
Prevention Act of 2002, is a step in the right direction, and something that all
Americans should support.”
Grassfire is one of the nation’s leading online grassroots citizen activist
organizations, offering real impact, real feedback and real results to hundreds
of thousands of people across the nation and around the world.
