Chesapeake, VA –On Wednesday, January 10, just one week before convicted Border Agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean are to report to federal prison to begin their decade long prison terms, Grassfire.org will be in Washington, D.C., to present nearly 225,000 petitions demanding a Presidential pardon for these lawmen.

"In just the last four weeks, more than 64,000 citizens have added their names to our 'Pardon the Border Agents' petition,” says Grassfire President Steve Elliott. “This level of grassroots support is almost unparalleled, and really speaks to the fact that Americans want this injustice corrected.”

The press event, in D.C. is being arranged by Rep. Ted Poe (R-TX) and includes a number of notable groups in addition to Grassfire.org.

“Grassfire is thrilled to be able to give citizens a real voice in this legal battle to free agents Ramos and Compean. In addition to petitions, Grassfire launched an aggressive fax campaign to key lawmakers resulting in more than 18,000 faxes deluging key offices including the White House, U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez and others.
