Maxwell, IA – The defeat of the Senate “Amnesty” bill last night can be directly attributed to more than one million Senate contacts made by Grassfire team members since the announcement of the “Kennedy-Bush Amnesty” bill several weeks ago. An Internet-based, conservative organization with more than one million active team members, “Grassfire sent over 700,000 petitions, faxes and thousands of phone calls to Senate offices these last few weeks,” says Steve Elliott, President of Grassfire.org Alliance. “Our team knew what was at stake if this fiasco-of-a-bill passed, and they responded like I knew they would. And that’s just one organization!”

Additionally, Grassfire’s "Where's The Fence?" ads also reached upwards of 15 million citizens, and sounded a rally cry that citizens and certain lawmakers are now embracing. Click here to view the initial TV spot. “Three simple words that are reshaping this debate,” says Elliott. “Where’s the fence? There’s a law on the books already that says it should have been built. Statistics show that it is an effective deterrent to illegal border crossings. So where is the fence? Millions of citizens want to know.”

Interestingly, Grassfire’s “Where’s the Fence?” ads targeted 11 key Senators in seven states. Of those eleven, 10 voted "Nay" on cloture--another example of grassroots pressure making a difference. Click here to view the Roll Call vote.

Bush-Kennedy will return.

Despite the grassroots victory, Elliott says the battle against amnesty is not over. “If you listened to the floor speeches after the vote on C-Span, then you know they will bring amnesty back -- sooner rather than later.” In the weeks ahead, Grassfire will continue to mobilize citizens for this next “amnesty” push. “It’s not over, but fortunately we have an incredible team—a team that understands the difference between legal and illegal immigration,” says Elliott.
