Grassfire.org is reporting that its team members made over 225,000 personal contacts (phone calls, petitions and faxes) to the Senate and the White House opposing the Bush-Kennedy amnesty bill within 48 hours of President Bush’s announcement that he would continue to press for passage despite last week’s defeat on the Senate floor.

“We have already seen more activity in phone calls, petitions and faxes in just 48 hours this week than all of last week at the height of the Senate floor debate,” says Steve Elliott, President of Grassfire.org. “The President’s insistence that the Senate reconsider the amnesty bill -- combined with the arrogance of his ‘see you at the bill signing’ comment -- has fueled an even greater response. The ‘grassroots roar’ cited by the New York Times has gotten even louder.”

Grassfire.org is also seeing building momentum for its “Where’s The Fence?”(tm) campaign and television spots. “The phrase, ‘Where’s The Fence?”(tm), has quickly become one of the central themes of this entire debate,” says Elliott, “This ad strikes to the very heart of this debate and the broken trust between D.C. politicians and grassroots Americans.” In the coming days, Grassfire is preparing to release the second of four planned “Where’s The Fence?”(tm) TV spots, this time focusing on President Bush and the key Senators who are still pushing for passage of the Bush-Kennedy amnesty bill.
