—Chesapeake, VA—After learning that certain members of Congress would employ tactics to delay a vote on Sen. Jim DeMint’s Earmark Moratorium legislation, Grassfire.org sounded the alarm for more than 100,000 grassroots citizens to take action by calling and faxing members of Congress starting Thursday morning and continuing until the vote is taken.

“Political shenanigans aren’t going to keep this vote from happening,” says Steve Elliott, President of Grassfire.org. “Congressional addiction to earmarking is drawing to a close. Those who are attempting to short-circuit the moratorium move would be wise to join in support because the vote will happen.”

During a morning news conference on Capitol Hill on Tuesday, Grassfire.org presented more than 107,000 petitions to Sen. DeMint and others who were calling for an end to the siphoning of billions of tax dollars to fund pet projects for friends of members of Congress.

Elliott believes delays in the vote will only lead to more support. “Delays in the vote gives our team a larger window to make calls and rally critically needed support for the DeMint amendment.”

In addition to petitions, Grassfire.org team members have also sent more than 25,000 personal faxes and placed thousands of phone calls to Senators demanding real reform on earmark spending.
