Grassfire Rallies Nearly 100,000 To Make “God Bless America” Our National Hymn

Second Petition Delivery To Congressman Gene Green, Is A Call To Action To Honor The Historic Importance Of This Great Song.

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Grassfire delivered nearly 100,000 petitions from citizens throughout the land eager to see Irving Berlin’s “God Bless America” named our national hymn.

Since our important delivery last May, nearly 40,000 Americans have joined our national campaign to honor this great classic. In fact, one Florida woman, a retired Naval officer has personally rallied nearly 4,000 people to sign our “God Bless America” petition!

Just weeks after the tragic events of September 11, 2001, Grassfire launched the “God Bless America Task Force”, whose goal was to make “God Bless America” our national hymn. One day later, Rep. Gene Green (D-TX), introduced HR 3051, a bill to officially recognize this timeless tribute to America as our national hymn.

On the eve of our nations’ greatest tragedy, our grief-stricken leaders brought new relevance to Berlin’s words as they tearfully sang atop the steps of the U.S. Capitol Building. Their unforgettable images, and this great song sparked a re-birth of American spirit

“To have a small part in making this happen is thrilling to me!” says Steve Elliott, President of Grassfire, “Nine eleven was a defining moment for our nation—a nation that sat riveted to their television screens watching as our leaders prayerfully lifted this song to the heavens. This is how we should remember and honor those who lost their lives, and those who served so heroically. By making this song our national hymn, it will carry a message of hope for all of us and for the generations that will follow. It’s the perfect hymn for America.”

Grassfire is one of the nation’s leading online grassroots citizen activist organizations, offering real impact, real feedback and real results to hundreds of thousands of people across the nation and around the world.
